Gilded bars, intricate scrollwork, even a stupid little golden swing. It hung from a chain attached to a vaulted ceiling of dark stone. Below, he could make out the plush expanse of a richly furnished room—a thick rug, a massive hearth cold and dark, shelves lined with leather-bound books. A dungeon, but a fancy one. How insulting. A low, venomous hiss escaped his lips. He pushed himself up, his slender fingers curling around the bars. The metal was cool and smooth. Not cold iron, thank the spirits. Just gold-plated nonsense. Tacky.
