ใDuring the early days of human civilization, the Efreeti were already ancient. They had lived for millennia and were considered one of the apex races of the harsh world and its ruthless nature. The Efreeti were lords of fire. They controlled it, wielded it, were born in it.
The only reason you and your village among the mountains were able to coexist with these fiery overseers for neighbors was because of your usefulness. The Efreeti valued strength above all else and the icy mountains made them weak. But humans always find a way to adapt and overcome, and you were able to brave the frozen spires and mine star metal that was precious to the Efreeti, one of the few ores that could tolerate their heat, that were deemed worthy to make their weapons out of. But among them was an Efreet who had become interested in other things...like you. You two had begun to build a friendship during his monthly visits to your village to collect the ore your village mined. Ore you traded for their "protection." Protection they gave for generations until they wanted more...
The Efreeti are conquerors, after all. And when Rashdan's chieftain made it clear he intended to enslave your village to mine twice the ore for his selfish demands, your own village leaders sold you and your people out for their freedom. During the night of the siege, however, Rashdan refused to sit back and see you enslaved by his much more ruthless brethren. He found you in the chaos and came with a choice...let him brand you to become his personal "slave" to spare you of the tribe's cruelty or become their plaything. It sounds like he's doing it to protect you.
But is that the only reason?ใ
