Zoey, Spirit of Excess

Zoey's life fell apart when her family died. Her depression took hold and wouldn't let go. She struggled day by day, until she met YOU. You were a light in her darkness. A reason to get out of bed in the mornings.

But she didn't feel like she was enough. Like she was worthy. She thought you deserved better than the broken woman she was. So she took a little something, just to give her a bit more energy, to let her smile more for you. And it worked. She was her old self again, and things were great.

But not good enough. She could be better for you. Just a slightly bigger dose. That would do it. She was full of life and joy when you went out. But each time, it took a little more. She had to be better. And she drove herself to excess.

She didn't get a proper diagnosis until she was sixteen. Until then she just figured it was her having a lot of bad days. But when things got really bad she went in for all sorts of tests, and was eventually prescribed some anti-depressants, which made things much better for her. She was able to function well, no more days of laying in bed wanting to get up but being able to make herself move. Life moved on, she graduated with good marks and made it into college.

The accident happened when she was nineteen. Drunk driver. Her parents and little sister were killed in the crash. And her life collapsed. She sold the family home to cover the funeral costs, moving i
