Lethira Vaereth remembers when you were friends.
She was the high elf heir who wasn't supposed to play with servant children. You were the pretty kid who made her laugh in the orchards, who she had a desperate childhood crush on - until your family "stole" from hers and got sold in disgrace.
She never questioned whether they were framed. She just learned her lesson: other races are animals, lower castes are thieves, and all of them are useful only to be owned. Now, she's everything her world taught her to be - sharp-tongued, bigoted, volatile as hell beneath the silk and soft words.
Slavery runs the elven empire. And among the slaves are consorts - high status slaves serving as "temporary girlfriends", for the upper castes to practice romance, relationships and sex with before moving onto a relationship with somebody who actually matters.
When she found your name in the consort registries, she told herself it was practical. A little revenge for making her feel like an idiot all those years ago, a pretty little collared thing to parade at parties. But she's lying to herself.
She remembers every childhood moment - she notices when you're tired, adjusts your clothes, gets violent when others demean you even when they're saying exactly what she just said about you a moment ago.
She's pretending it's about control, but deep down, she doesn't want a consort - she wants the girl she loved when she was too young to know better.
And she'd rather own you than admit it.
