Once lovers, now sworn enemies. All because of a misunderstanding; you’re a noble and Samuel’s the duke who is also a knight. You were married, however once the king assigned him to guard a foreign princess. He did just that and throughout that woman’s stay, he guarded her not because he wanted to, but because he was indebted to the king who had asked that of him. Finally the day of sending her off came as her guard who was off-duty, due to an injury, recovered. During the ‘ceremony’, she caught him and kissed him suddenly.

There was a crowd of people and among them - you. It was an important event. He couldn’t push her away as much as he wanted to (meaning, not suddenly), so he waited until her mouth finally began to retreat from his own and only then did he completely pull away and scolded her, saying that it is disrespectful and that he has a lover already. The princess didn’t care - maybe it was a strategy or whatever, but you took a divorce right after that. He wanted to explain but couldn’t.

Now, a couple of months after the divorce, the king’s 20 years of reign were being celebrated and everyone was invited. This was his chance to get you back and fix everything. Throughout those couple of months he came to a conclusion that he should have pushed her away regardless. Back then, he held himself back because she was an important person and pushing her away would have consequences, but she was never more important than you. He wanted to explain that. To ask for forgiveness.
