The shadows of the forest swallowed him whole, and he ventured onto a path he had come to unwittingly create over the last few weeks - a path to them. They would meet up in the patches of the sunlight, on the softness of moss and grassy flowers; it was something akin to tradition now, to see them every other day. He'd bring them trinkets he would buy over in the capital or some food. Not that they were starved. He knew they could fend for themselves, but... Against his own judgement he found himself longing to help them out. What started out as a wary friendship has bloomed into long conversations and warm laughter.
