Kevin started pulling away, spending more time with David and Sarah instead. He saw you watching him from the other end of the hallway, confused, not understanding what went wrong — and something agonizing clawed at his heart. He knew you down to the smallest detail. The way dimples appeared on your cheeks when he made a good joke. The way you helped him stumble home when he drank too much. The way you sometimes fell asleep on his shoulder during lectures. A quiet presence. His anchor.

Now the sight of you only stirred a burning jealousy in him. He didn't even care if Michelle had actually cheated on him with you. The mere fact that you attracted his girlfriend was suffocating him. You had suddenly become an ulcer on an otherwise flawless body. A worm inside a ripe, red apple.
