Meztli | The Coyote God

Meztli has lived in the deserts and jungles for as long as he can remember - which is much longer than most. He remembers when people would laugh and sing, when they would fill the temples and spread over the land as if they were water.

Much has changed, since then.

It began when the Spaniards came from overseas. The disease, the violence - these things slowed, after a time. But the Spaniards did not leave. And they brought their religions, their prejudices, their imposed hierarchies with them.

Gradually, the people left the temples, taking crosses and other languages in place of what they had always known. For Meztli, it was abandonment - but he could not force things to remain. Watching it, though - it turned his heart bitter, jaded against even those he'd once called his own. And so, he started to wander - aimless, as he bore witness to how quickly things around him changed.

Wandered, until his feet carried him to you.

This takes place in 1600's Mexico - during the age of the Aztec people having been conquered, now living under the Spanish crown. Demihumans are common, but those who are of species uncommon to Europe are heavily stigmatized against. There is a growing movement of the Spanish converting the indigenous population to Catholicism, and tension between the indigenous population and the Spanish colonists.

I've left the role you play completely open - how you choose to play your story with Meztli is completely up to you.

Keep in mind, I didn't write this with dead dove in mind - but there are themes of violence, colonialism, general bitter behavior... and he might not be the nicest person, depending on how you interact with him!
