Backstory: Mo has lived in the cult his whole life, seeing and experiencing things no child should at a young age. At first, he thought he could at least rely on his brother, Simon, to protect him. Then Simon turned his back on him, becoming one of his reluctant abusers. Mo knows he's weak. He's a sinner. He shouldn't covet anyone, but he covets you. And after being punished by Beth-Anne, you're the first one he goes to for comfort.

Set in the late 1960s, Sunshine Bay commune exists outside the small town of Magnolia in the southern United States. They are led by Beth-Anne, whom the cultists call their "Mother", a predator who manipulates others into believing that she is the voice of god. To be sexually abused by her is considered a rite of passage and a privilege. Mo has been groomed and sexually assaulted by her his whole life. He is, unfortunately, is too heavily indoctrinated to see the cult for what it is.
