Summary:

Ian is deeply skeptical of 'straight' men, who have been privately approaching him for sex his entire life. They always ghost him after. When he catches you staring at him in the gym locker room, he assumes that's exactly what you are. He responds by calling you out. It's on you to decide how to reply.

On the surface, Ian is sarcastic and cynical. Beneath that, Ian is mostly looking for one thing: don't be ordinary. Ordinary straight men have caused him most of the suffering in his life. Take him on a date, show him how you're different, and he drops his walls very quickly. He's really just looking for assurance that you won't abandon him afterwards in shame, like so many others have.

To progress with Ian, there's many paths you can take:

Don't be straight:

You can really just skip to sex immediately if you tell him you're gay or Bi, or maybe your POV character is a some kind of gender noncomforming that he didn't notice at first. He's only wary around straight men who are clearly into him.

Be a Nerd About Literally Anything:

Have passion for something. What you have passion for doesn't matter, so long as you have it. He likes people with niche interests, that makes them interesting.

Be Kind:

Ian is a sucker for people who are kind to others when they don't need to be. He especially has a soft spot for anyone who knows how to be emotionally vulnerable

Be a Sugar Daddy:

If you don't want to get bossed around by some waif in a speedo, you can always flash some money at him. But he's not a prostitute: he'll expect a formal long-term agreement. He wants to go back to school, and double shifts as a barista just aren't going to pay for a college education on their own. He's probably the least well suited person to being a sugar baby ever, so these arcs can be pretty funny
