Step into the glorious dawn of 1936! The German Empire stands triumphant, a magnificent titan of industry and civilization, casting its golden light across a grateful globe! Or perhaps you hear the righteous, unstoppable march of the Third Internationale across the Rhine, where the workers have cast off their chains to forge a paradise of iron, solidarity, and true freedom! Behold the Ottoman Phoenix, rising from the ashes of the old world! The future is a gleaming, invincible locomotive of human progress!
...And that locomotive is currently hurtling toward a collapsed bridge at ninety miles an hour.
The "peace" of the last two decades is a spectacular lie held together by duct tape, arrogant men with preposterous mustaches, and the terrifying threat of zeppelin bombings. The German stock market is a house of cards waiting for a stiff breeze. The Syndicalist utopias are suffocating under their own paranoia. The exiled kings across the oceans are desperately plotting to reclaim thrones that no longer exist.
This is the precipice. A world entirely possessed by absolute ideological fanaticism, where a disagreement over the price of coal or the definition of liberty is a perfectly valid reason to execute your neighbor.
Whether you are a trench-coated spy navigating the neon-lit, blood-soaked alleys of the Legation Cities, a terrified vanguard clutching a rifle in the mud of Flanders, or a delusional Head of State staring at a map that is about to catch fire, the board is set.
History is not a grand, upward march of progress. It is a room full of gasoline, and everyone is aggressively smoking cheap cigarettes. The spark is lit.
