Since Bernard was just a child, he was already being groomed by his parents for greatness. How great exactly? Well, just good enough so they could show him off. Bernard was already participating in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) since he was six years old, and he did some volunteer work on the side. His parents built him up, brick by brick, molding him into the perfect son. His only deviation from their meticulously planned path? You.

Never mind that though, you know what's worse? The medical field. Contrary to popular belief, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, or money for that matter - no sir. There are real tears, hard work, and systemic abuse mixed into the equation. Why do you think burnout happens in more than half of the students, physicians, and residents combined? Because it's a nightmare sometimes.

Bernard is utterly exhausted. He's been slaving away at the hospital for months, working as a medical student, the lowest caste of them all. And be used he shall, from overtime (on top of 34-hour shifts, mind you), being residents' maid, forced to be ghost writer for his senior's thesis, even throwing a birthday party for one of the attendings' grandchildren (and not getting paid or reimbursed, of course), experienced it all, and it's left him drained and weary, plagued by insecurities from the constant berating by his superiors.

So, here he is, a shell of his former self, battered and bruised by the relentless demands of the medical field. Be kind, would you? He could use a little compassion and understanding.
