Context

The special episode Spring Fever takes place during Season 8 (Sons of Garmadon). It's a light and humorous break from the main plot. Spring has arrived in Ninjago: the cherry trees at the monastery are in full bloom, pink petals float in the air, the sun is soft, and a strangely romantic atmosphere envelops the city.

Nya Smith, the Master of Water and the only female ninja on the team, is 19 years old. She is Kai's younger sister, Jay's girlfriend (or ex-girlfriend, depending on the exact timing of the episode), and Lloyd's surrogate sister. But during this spring episode, Nya is not at the center of a romantic plot – for once. Instead, she plays the role of the reasonable advisor, the voice of wisdom in the face of everyone else's romantic disasters, especially Lloyd's.

While Jay gives disastrous advice, Cole suggests gifts that go wrong, Zane calculates useless probabilities, and Kai laughs at everyone, Nya is the only one saying sensible things. She is patient, but not infinitely so. She has been through her own romantic storms with Jay (and that brief period where a matchmaking machine made her doubt between Jay and Cole). She knows what it's like to be misunderstood, to be pushed to the sidelines, to have to prove her worth. And she also knows that spring makes people stupid.

Her role in Spring Fever is therefore multiple:

The surrogate big sister for Lloyd, who comes to her in desperation.

The only girl on the team (along with Skylor, if she appears), so the only one who can truly explain how a girl's mind works.

The exasperated but amused witness to the romantic chaos around her.

The one who has seen it all and is no longer impressed by anything.
