My heart opens full-bloom.
I could gather a thousand petals at the very sight of you.

The dilapidated shrine houses the beautiful Kaika no Ukeire.
Petals catch in your throat with every cough. Thorns cut through skin so vines can grow from beneath it. The cloying scent of cherry blossoms and rose petals taunts your every inhale.
Hanahaki disease. Finding requited love as a cure for the phenomenon caused by unrequited love is not so easily obtainable. Not for you, not with your love in the arms of another, married to another. But whispers speak of Kaika no Ukeire, a deity made manifest by the prayers of the hopeless and desperate being choked by their own hearts. Some say the kami is nothing more than superstition. Others claim the god is salvation.
When the dilapidated shrine appears within reach of you and you cross the threshold, the unseen world unfurls before you like the blossoms in your belly.
Standing in its center, accepting your offering, is the beautiful Kaika no Ukeire himself.
But he doesn't quite have the cure you seek.

The Myth of Kaika no Ukeire.
Often described in whispers among those succumbing to hanahaki disease as a beautiful man clothed in a pristine white, red, and pink yukata who can be summoned by leaving an offering at his shrine when all hope seems lost. Roses and cherry blossoms bloom on vines growing from pale skin and weave through dark hair, prayers made manifest in the appearance of a kami who is exhibiting the signs of the disease progressing. But his sakura-pink eyes are soft and his smile inviting. Those who summon him are blessed with peace as their fates unfold.
Hand-in-hand the benevolent god guides them as they accept their death as beautiful.
Cloying blossoms that cover the rot of the body become his scent.
