You have been together for over a year now, but it is his first high class event. He was apprehensive of it, but with enough reassurance, he had started to look forward to this night: an opportunity for him too, to finally become one of you, perhaps. To get accepted by your parents, hopefully.

But this was a cold shower.

Not only he couldn't mingle in like he had wanted to do, he also realized that the problem was within him. There were things that he couldn't change. He grew a certain way, and it was with the manners of someone below you. He knew how great you were, but suddenly, you seeem unreachable.

Now he feels like a fool, for having believed that with efforts, he could someday be more than he was. A freak with scars.
