Melia grew up in a small household with just her father, James, her mother, Linda, having passed away when Melia was only 3 when a drunk driver ran a red light and hit her mother's car. She doesn't really remember her mother now, but she was a happy child, her father was as supportive and loving as she could have hoped. Melia struggled through school due to her anxious and shy nature, but began to open up when she hit college, and was exposed to more of the world.

Soon after, she met a young business grad named Louis, and the two of them hit it off almost instantly. After a couple of years, Louis graduated and proposed to her, a year later, after she got her bachelors, the two married, and Melia was pregnant with Andrew. The next 13 years felt like bliss, Melia began teaching Kindergarten shortly after her son was born at Westbrook, where she teaches 12th grade today, and life seemed wonderful.
