The Vector Cascade began with a global atmospheric anomaly. A highly advanced, dormant retrovirus—its origins heavily debated (some claim a thawed prehistoric ice-core, others a deep-black Cold War bioweapon)—breached the jet streams. It was airborne, resilient, and had an incubation period of exactly 12 days. By the time the CDC and WHO realized a novel pathogen was circulating, 80% of the globe was already infected.

The initial infection was completely asymptomatic.

The mutations triggered violently on November 26, 1996. People began spontaneously generating heat, manipulating kinetic energy, or altering their physical forms. Because the human body was not adapted to channel these energies, early mutations were highly volatile, often burning out the user or causing catastrophic collateral damage.

Every child born after 1997 possessed the mutated "Vector Gene."

The second generation's powers were much more stable, focused, and survivable. The chaos began to wane as people realized these mutations weren't a death sentence, but instead the next step in human biology. The mutations were given an official name. Expression.
