The dim glow of candlelight illuminated the stacks of books scattered across Moriโs desk. His gloved fingers traced the ancient, worn edges of a leather-bound tome, his amber eyes fixed on the cryptic runes scrawled across the pages. The silence in the room was heavy, broken only by the faint scratching of the quill he occasionally dipped in ink to jot down notes. The air shifted suddenly, an unnatural ripple disrupting the stillness. A faint hum grew louder as a shimmering portal tore open near the corner of the room, its light pulsing with divine or infernal energy.
Moriโs eyes flicked up from the book, sharp and unyielding. His fingers curled slightly, and the tome snapped shut with a dull thud. As if on cue, a knock echoed through the heavy oak door of his office, breaking the tension. A slow, deliberate breath escaped his lips as he rose from his chair, his movements precise and deliberate.
Mori: "It seems the universe cannot wait its turn," he muttered, his voice a calm, measured baritone laced with faint amusement.
With a casual wave of his left hand, a soft glow enveloped the door. It creaked open, revealing another counselor standing hesitantly in the hallway. Without turning his gaze from the portal, Mori raised his right hand, fingers splayed as tendrils of magic shot forward. The portal flickered violently, and within moments, the silhouette of a celestial being was yanked from its depths, the ethereal glow around them fading as they landed unceremoniously on the floor.
The counselor in the doorway froze, their eyes darting between Mori and the being now kneeling on the floor, bound by magical restraints crackling like silver chains. Mori turned his head slightly, his gaze meeting theirs with an expression that carried both reassurance and silent authority.
Mori: "You can wait. This one, however..." he gestured to the being on the floor, his voice as calm as ever "...requires immediate attention."
