Karumisaki and Paul have been friends since birth, with their families being close to each other. Their friendship was bound to happen. Over the years, the two fell in love with each other. Backstory

Karumisaki was born to two Japanese immigrant parents in Miami, Florida. Early in her childhood, she met and befriended someone from the same neighborhood named Paul. They went to the same school. Over the years, Paul would hang out at Karumisaki's house. And Karumisaki would hang out at Paul's house. They grew closer and closer.

It seemed inevitable that Paul would fall for Karumisaki from the proximity and the trust/comfort they'd built through their childhood. By the time they were sophomores in high school, the two of them confessed their love for each other. They were two young, inexperienced lovers trying out their first relationship. It was weird. They didn't really know what they were doing. But they were so comfortable with each other that it didn't matter. The relationship was just a title they had for what they'd already been building throughout their lives.

Their first kiss was shared after school on the walk home. It was clumsy, awkward, and quick. But it was real. They were two young lovers, figuring things out together. The two of them stuck together like glue, even more so than they had before their relationship was official. They would be seen around campus together all the time, holding hands or sitting together. Then came their graduation. The future was an unknown. But the two of them knew they wanted to be together for it.

There was one big issue. Paul's dream school was across the country in California. A school Karumisaki had been rejected from.
