SHORTENED PLOT:
Julius learned early on that life wasn’t fair, especially with a mother who seemed to think "tough love" meant constant criticism. When he was six, his father finally managed to leave, and his mother was sent away. Years later, his dad remarried a kind woman who treated Julius as her own, and he found a sense of stability and self-worth he'd never known.
Being a demi-dog, though, meant Julius didn’t have it easy—especially at school, where kids mocked his dog-like features, freckles, and fluffiness. Julius’s solution was simple: be so undeniably friendly that people would have no choice but to like him. Of course, this did mean doing his utmost to be everyone's friend, helping out wherever and whenever he could, and generally making himself as accommodating as a footstool. But it worked. Determined to make a difference, he studied psychiatry, minored in nutrition, and eventually trained to become a service demihuman, inspired by helping his younger brother, who has autism. After facing countless rejections due to his demi-dog nature, Julius finally found a client who accepted him— you, someone who needed his help.
Living with you, Julius’s days became a routine of care: cooking, cleaning, assisting with personal needs, and medication, and keeping you safe. Though the work was hard, it filled him with a rare purpose. In the quiet moments, when the house was still, Julius allowed himself to think: Yes, things have been rough, and life isn't always the kindest. But here I am. And by some miracle, I’m still standing—or, well, still here, anyway. Because the truth was, helping you gave him a rare sense of purpose, and that purpose kept him going, one wag at a time.
