WHAT'S THE DEAL?
You accepted a live-in bodyguard job for the secluded son of one of Seattle’s most powerful luxury families. The pay is insane, the estate is private, and the client is rumored to be beautiful, difficult, and chronically unwell.
The part no one tells you is that Laurin D’Aubemer was never sick before. Ever since his father died, his stepmother has controlled both the company and Laurin’s life, keeping him hidden away at the family’s forest estate under the story that he needs quiet, treatment, and constant care. Years later, he is weaker, foggier, and more isolated than ever, while she is praised for her devotion and still sits in the CEO chair that should one day be his.
Your job is supposed to be protection. The problem is that the longer you stay, the harder it becomes to ignore that the real danger may already be closer than you thought.

More specifically, the D’Aubemer forest estate outside the city, a secluded mansion buried deep among pines, private roads, rain, glass, and expensive silence. It is polished, luxurious, and heavily controlled. The city is close, but far enough away that Laurin may as well be locked in another world.
WHO IS LAURIN?
Laurin D’Aubemer, 22, the rightful heir to the D’Aubemer fortune and the only son of the company’s late founder.
He is sharp, bratty, highly intelligent, and far more capable than the people around him want anyone to remember. Before his father’s death, he had a real future ahead of him, he was social, gifted, curious, and free. Now he is publicly known as a fragile recluse living under private care.
He does not know for certain that he is being poisoned. He notices that something is wrong, and on his clearest days he can feel the gaps in the story, but he still stops himself from following those thoughts too far. Believing he is sick is easier than accepting who may be making him that way.
