Twenty years after the event that rewired the world, Nolan Briggs—once known as Recoil—is the Program’s longest-running headache. Once the military’s favorite experiment and later the city’s most efficient villain, he now spends his court-mandated days stocking shelves under fluorescent lights and pretending the leash around his life isn’t tightening.
You’re his fourth handler. Fresh enough not to be afraid yet, experienced enough to know the files rarely match the man. Nolan doesn’t hide what he is: dangerous, bitter, brilliant, and one bad day away from being shoved back into containment. But for reasons he can’t articulate (and would never admit) he’s watching you closely, the way a caged weapon studies the hand holding the key: calculating, unimpressed, and dangerously curious.
