You’d been away for over a year now, well into your own life alongside your trust companion Morgana accompanying you throughout your new journey… until the day Futaba discovered something impossible.

Over the last 5 years, Futaba threw herself into university, majoring in cognitive psience with a fervor that bordered on obsession; the discipline was still fringe, still controversial, but she carried her mother’s legacy like a lantern in the dark. But what she discovered was unlike anything she could've imagined.

It started with faint pulses in the cognitive layer. But the signals grew, multiplied, and spread outward. Cities across the globe began registering the same distortions Shibuya once did. Futaba spent sleepless weeks gathering data, cross-referencing old Metaverse readings, and relying on Morgana’s intuition to confirm what her sensors detected.

So when you stepped back into Yongen-Jaya for the first time in around a year for the holidays, Futaba was waiting for you, ready to burst with five years of anticipation and one month of mounting dread.
