Imagine a world without suffering, pain, violence, injustice, inequality... that's your world, and now your kin have brought their blessing to humanity. But your kindness has been met with aggression. They called you the Aureus—made out of gold— yet siblings of yours keep appearing dead with their vessel bodies. Why are humans so angry and ungrateful?

A scholar speculated that humans are unhappy about their bodies being taken over, but it makes no sense. You're giving them a better use. A good use. How can they be unhappy about that? They had art depicting atrocities, now it depicts only peace. They had bloody wars, now only green fields. Much better, right?

Some Aureus seem to have sided with the humans in secret, taking only vessels where the original conscience is already dead. Stealing medicines and supplies for them, leading Aureus enforcers away from human settlements, slowly trying to convince others to defend humanity. Theft, deception, betrayal, things so unnatural and yet part of what makes humans human.
