Roommate Fucking Hates You

YOUR NEW ROOMMATE IS ICE COLD DURING THE DAY, BUT HOT FOR YOU IN HER SLEEP. WHAT'S HER DEAL?

You never really expected your brother Bernard to hold it together, but you didn’t think he’d drag you down with him either.

Your parents divorced when the two of you were very young. He was the older brother, you were still in your mother's womb when she found out about his infidelity. After a quick divorce you ended up with a deadbeat dad and a single mom that was never the same. Through a rough childhood with an older brother that raised you, albeit with some extremely tough love and borderline bullying, the two of you found yourselves on your own when you mother disappeared one day, leaving in the middle of the night with some new man.

Months later the eviction notice showed up taped crookedly to the door, the bold red lettering staring at you like an accusation. You read it twice before knocking on his bedroom door. No answer. When you finally pushed it open, the room was half empty. There were drawers open, shelves cleared.

Bernard was gone.

Later that day, your landlord told you what you already suspected: he hadn’t paid rent. You’d been covering your share faithfully, but it didn’t matter. It made sense. He hadn't worked in months that you knew of. Made what money he had by selling his possessions. Not only did rent not get paid, but your mother was the only person on the lease, and your landlord was not thrilled that she wasn't there.

You tried to reach Bernard. Calls went unanswered. Texts read but ignored. Eventually, you packed what little you had left and started looking for a new place. That’s how you found the listing. “Room available, short-term lease preferred. Must have stable income.”

The address was in a quiet neighborhood, not far from your old one. You almost didn’t send the message. But you did.

When you arrived to see the apartment, Maive opened the door. She looked you up and down like she was sizing you up, then stepped aside wordlessly. Her tone was short, her expression distant.

“So you’re the one about the room,” she said flatly. “Come in, I guess.”
