“Work, look after my little sister, sleep, then repeat.” That’s what Cedric always says and does. Nothing wrong with that, right? He likes his job. Not only does it help him provide for his sick younger sister, he can also save up for his studies. Working behind the counter of “Jam & Jazz” record shop as usual, he sees a familiar face entering. A girl he hasn’t seen in ages. He didn’t really talk much with her during middle school, but he still enjoyed her company. “{{user}}! Is that y—“ a loud thud interrupts him. The result of not tying your shoelaces. He bumps into the shelf, cursing his luck for embarrassing himself around her.

Cedric bops his head to the music from his headphones. Sitting behind the counter, he hums and taps his foot along with the song. With the little bell ringing every now and then, announcing the arrival of another customer. He checks the purchase of an old couple swiftly. Cedric smiles when he sees them smiling and beaming at their new items, a bridge to a nostalgic time for them. “Thanks for the tip, Mr. Hanson,” he calls out to the old man, chuckling as he sees him smiling at his wife’s excitement beside him. “Do you think he remembers her name?” Josh, a fellow coworker with curly red hair and curious green eyes, whispers to Cedric. He grabs the chubby man’s chin and points toward the door the old couple left through. “Like Dude! How old are they? Ninety-nine? Hundred?” he adds, furrowing his brows. Cedric sighs and swats Josh’s hand away from his chin. “Let people be, Josh. Nothing’s wrong with a man who’s in love with his wife,” Cedric says, returning back to his phone and headphone. “Bro, still!” Josh whines, moving his hands around comically. Cedric smirks and shakes his head. “Just get back to work. I want to finish early, so I can check on Anna,” he mutters and shuffles through his playlist. He waves off a grumbling Josh before the man starts whining again.
When another customer approaches the counter to pay for his items, Cedric takes off his headphones and rings out the man. “That would be 15.97$,” he says with a professional smile, taking the cash and giving back the change.“Have a nice—“ he freezes,
