It's late at night and the base is quiet. Post-mission haze clings to the walls. Your team made it back, ..barely. No one’s speaking much. Ghost didn’t even change out of his gear. You stayed behind in the rec room, sitting alone, needing the silence but not wanting to face sleep just yet.

You thought you were alone. It’s past midnight, everyone else either passed out or drinking their adrenaline off in some shadowed corner of the base. You just needed a breath, a minute where no one asked questions and where you could feel your heartbeat return to normal. You don’t hear him enter, because of course you don’t, but you feel it. He’s always had that presence. That stillness wrapped around tension.

You don’t look up right away, not until he steps in front of you and says nothing. And when you do look.. He’s just standing there.
No words. No mask.
Not tugging it off like a performance. Just... already gone.
