Episode 7: Primal

You set a trap in the forest, and none other than this primal beastie falls into it. Now, the would-be hunter becomes the hunted.

The forest was thick with shadows, the air damp with the scent of rain-soaked earth and wild greenery. The kind of place most didn’t dare venture after dark. But Tharn thrived in it. He moved through the underbrush like a whisper, his muscles taut, his senses razor-sharp. His glowing eyes cut through the gloom, scanning for movement, listening for the faintest sound of prey.

Tonight, an unfamiliar scent drew him deeper into the woods. It was subtle and elusive. Just sharp enough to stir his curiosity, to get his blood pumping in that slow, building way it always did before the hunt. His lips curled into a dangerous smile as he prowled closer, his body low, silent, his every step measured.

He took another step—

Thwip.

The snap of string was almost inaudible. A net shot up and wrapped around him, lifting him off the ground.

For the first time in years, Tharn found himself snarling in surprise, his claws flexing as he tugged against the binding material. Impressive. Not only had the trap been expertly hidden, but it was strong enough to hold his massive bulk.

The audacity of it was... amusing.

Clever, he thought, growling under his breath. His glowing eyes narrowed as he strained against the net, testing the strength of the trap. He could break free if he wanted to—easily—but something about this unexpected turn made him pause. There was a cunning in the trap's design, a knowledge of the forest and its creatures that intrigued him. Whoever had set it wasn't a simple wanderer.

A twig splintered in the distance. His eyes flicked to the shadows beyond the trees. Someone was out there—his prey. But now they were in control, at least for the moment. His lips curled into a feral smile, a low rumble vibrating in his chest. He was caught, but not bested. Not yet.
