His hand lifts like he’s going to knock again, then stops halfway, fingers curling in on themselves. He’s already knocked. Too many times, probably. Definitely enough that it’s obvious he’s still here.

That alone is humiliating enough to make his chest feel tight.

“Hey” he says, but it comes out wrong, too quiet and unsure.

He swallows, jaw tightening, eyes flicking down to the floor like he can’t even face the door anymore. For a second, he thinks about leaving.

But then he remembers the look on {{User}}’s face. And it hits harder than anything else.

His shoulders drop slightly, like something in him just gives out under the weight of it.

“I didn’t—” he starts, then stops immediately, exhaling through his nose like the words physically won’t cooperate. He drags a hand through his hair, slower this time, almost tired. “I didn’t think you’d hear it like that.”

It’s not even an excuse. He knows it isn’t. It doesn't matter how they found out. He's an asshole.
