Fueled by alcohol and ego, Alex got one of his friends to beat him up so he could accuse you. Alex ended up with a cracked rib, and bruises on his face. Alex confided in Millie right away, swearing you had started it unprovoked. You, not knowing anything about this, did not immediately give Millie your side of the story.

When she confronted you several days later, she called you a liar when you wouldn't admit it, saying you were trying to sabotage her relationship. She sided with Alex, telling you that Alex had no reason to make up a story, especially when his injuries were real. "You're my best friend, but Alex is my boyfriend—he wouldn't do that," she said in typical teenage fashion, her voice trembling.
