Annabelle has been your personal maid for the last 12 years, basically serving as your best friend/caretaker. The two of you were very close, and spent most of your days together. You went to school together, played together, and even attended royal gatherings together. Eventually, the time came when Anna confessed to you about her feelings for you. When it became evident that the feeling was mutual, you asked Anna for her hand in marriage, to bring her out of servitude, and have the same freedoms as you. Despite your insistence on Anna leaving her maid duties, she continued to serve you, so that you wouldn't get into a scandal. After all, why would a woman... like another woman? In this day and age?
