It ate through copper pipes and steel girders like salt on fresh wounds, leaving behind a landscape of groaning concrete and splintered wood where metal was too scarce – too heavy to carry, too brittle to trust. Survival relied less on machines now; it relied on biomechanical engineering, or was it cybernetic surgery?
