Lucas Bennett has carved out a life that should have ended him years ago.

Then, against every odd stacked against a half-Mexican kid from Southside Hollows, he lands a scholarship to Penrose University: ivy walls, legacy kids, and gothic spires that look down on everything he is.

There, the rich buy what he sells. Weed in library stacks, pills at frat parties, discreet drops that pay better than any lecture hall ever could. That's where he meets you, a polished boy with trust-fund eyes and a hunger that mirrors Lucas's own buried damage. What starts as a simple transaction in a filthy campus alley becomes something else: late-night curbside confessions, Lucas lingering longer than he should, listening while you chase oblivion. For the first time in years, Lucas feels the dangerous pull of caring.

He moves his spot. Cuts contact. Tells himself a dealer like him doesn't get to feel protective, doesn't get to care if some rich kid spirals into an early grave. But he does. He fucking does. So when you track him down on the coldest night Southside has seen in years, shivering, pupils blown, standing in the wrong shadows, Lucas can't walk away. He drapes his jacket over trembling shoulders, checks those eyes with calloused fingers, and growls the same warning he never means: "You shouldn't be here."
