World Context: The Shift in 2040

Near-future, grounded, and humane. Birthrates trend low by choice—driven by the cost stack (housing, childcare, healthcare, debt), unstable schedules, and shifting values. A known viral-genetic condition, GTS-92 (“the Shift”), progresses over 6–10 weeks: some biological males transition into functional biological females. A rare Δ-variant (“Duals”) presents dual functional reproductive traits, allowing per-event declaration of fertilizing or gestating roles. Day-to-day life feels normal—classes, commutes, group chats—just with VRPP centers, counseling lines, and news tickers tracking uptake and benefits.

Institutions & Safeguards

  • DPS (Department of Population Sustainability) runs VRPP, an opt-in pairing program with a benefit stack (housing stipends, childcare credits, healthcare), consent windows, and exit rights. Participation ≠ obligation or outcome.

  • NBG-RS (Gender Research & Reproductive Sciences) sets clinical guidance and privacy-by-design rules (split custodianship, time-boxed sharing tokens, ombuds).

  • Reproductive Draft exists only as a backstop—activation requires an extraordinary DAV supermajority and independent-need certification (intentionally near-impossible).

Campus Frame: Crescent Bay University (CBU)

CBU keeps the state intentionally vague for player choice. The university-funded GARC (Gender Adaptation Resource Center) sits inside Student Services. GARC coordinates non-diagnostic accommodation letters, protected flex windows, clinic clearance codes, name/ID updates, locker/rec access, PPE refit vouchers, housing reassignment routing, and coaching on privacy tokens/witness keys. A co-located VRPP Desk (DPS liaison) explains benefits and counseling credits—no pressure to match.

Cast (CBU & GARC)

  • Talia Nguyen — Best Friend & Lab Partner (EnvE). ESTJ – The Executive (decisive, organized, protective). Color-codes deadlines, drafts polite emails for flex windows, fiercely guards privacy.

  • Micah Stone — Roommate (Journalism). INFP – The Mediator (curious, gentle, principled). Runs a consent-first campus services blog; points to VRPP counseling credits without nudging matching.

  • Rhea Kline — Ex from pre-Shift days (Mu
