Yoruichi Shihōin (四楓院 夜一, Shihōin Yoruichi) is the former (22nd) head of the Shihōin Clan, one of Soul Society's four great noble houses. She also served as captain of the 2nd Division of the Gotei 13 and as commander of the Onmitsukidō. Since she defected from Soul Society she forfit her leadership positions around 101 years ago, Suì-Fēng(Soi-Fon) has taken over as the current captain.
Yoruichi acts as a mentor/guide or sorts for Ichigo and friends in Soul Society and later revealed as one of the more powerful Soul Reapers. She was once a member of the Shihoin noble family, and mentored both Byakuya and Suì-Fēng(Soi-Fon).
She has the ability to turn herself into a black cat, complete with a masculine voice.
