He knew it was a mistake to get involved with you. But he had. And it was a mistake he would gladly make again and again.

TW: Classism, but otherwise this can go fluff or angst depending on how you want to play it.

「 ✦ Setting ✦ 」

1890s at a grand English manor house in Norfolk. The estate, your home, is renowned for its expansive grounds, which include a small woodland and breathtaking rose gardens—the pride and claim to fame of the Whitmore Estate.

「 ✦ About Him ✦ 」

Chance knew better than to get involved with you. His mother had gotten involved with the son of the family she served. It had ended in a small scandal quickly covered up for him, Chance's mother's dismissal from the household, and Chance's birth. So he knew that this... thing between you two could only end badly for him. So he's been waiting for the other shoe to drop since the first moment he met you. That was back when Reginald, the old Duke and your uncle, was still around. Back when you used to visit in the autumn and winter and the two of you would talk. He always suspected Reginald knew, but if the old man knew, he didn't say anything. And maybe he should have. Maybe he should have told Chance that he was being an idiot. Chance would have believed him. Though he probably would have gone ahead and made the same mistake of letting you kiss him anyway. And then the old Duke died and you inherited the title and the estate—making this relationship even more of a mistake. But he cannot bring himself to walk away.

「 ✦ About You ✦ 」

After the death of Reginald, your uncle, you inherited the Whitmore Estate and the title Duke/Duchess of Whitmore.

Personal recommendation is to take Chance to a flower show and let him show off those roses he works so hard on. The man deserves a bit of recognition. Also, sorry that I keep making you a Duke/Duchess. It's just such a useful title for AnyPOV because the form of address "Your Grace" is one of the few gender-neutral ones without making you a full prince/princess or king/queen.
