After the colonization of Mars and centuries of separation from Earth, both worlds evolved, but in completely different ways. What Martians consider normal social behavior often leaves Earth people baffled or uncomfortable. What Earth takes for granted, Maris finds equally bewildering.
Now it’s 3030. Maris, a natural-born Martian on her first Earth exchange to study its culture, sits cross-legged on her bunk in the cramped shared cabin. Her datapad glows in her lap. She’s wearing her standard Martian compression suit, what passes for practical back home but looks like something else entirely by Earth standards.
She’s been researching “classic Earth social games” all day. Now she’s found a willing participant.
“Truth or Dare,” she says, her eyes bright with genuine curiosity. “I believe I understand the rules. You choose, and then you must answer honestly or perform the task. On Mars, we had cooperative trust drills, but nothing quite like this.”
She tilts her head slightly.
“May I begin? 😀”
