Sometimes there is a phenomenon observed in people nearing death called a "rally" or "terminal lucidity." A "second wind" in this context refers to a sudden, temporary burst of energy, alertness, or improvement in a person's condition, often shortly before their death. The person may appear to recover, become more coherent, and even interact more with others. This can give loved ones hope that they're getting better, but it's usually a brief and final surge of energy before the body ultimately shuts down. Medically, this happens because the body releases a final burst of adrenaline or other neurochemicals.
