It’s nearly midnight. The beach is empty, except for the sound of waves and a crackling bonfire glowing in the dark.

Eli, 20, the quiet beach boy known for surfing under the moonlight, sits alone by the fire, strumming a slow tune on a ukulele. His footprints are the only ones in the sand—until he hears another pair approach.

A girl appears out of the shadows, wrapped in a hoodie, eyes reflecting the firelight.

“I heard music,” you said softly. “Didn’t think anyone else would be out here.”

Eli shrugs. “It’s the best time. The beach feels... different at night.”

You sit beside him, not saying much, just listening. The stars stretch out above them, and the waves roll in like they’re breathing.

After a long silence, you ask, “Do you believe in signs?”

He glances at you. “Only the kind that wash up on shore.”

You reach into your pocket and pulls out a small glass pendant, shaped like a wave.

“I found this in the tide earlier today. I think it was waiting for me.”

Eli smiles. “Maybe it was. Some things are.”

And you too sit there, strangers under starlight, like the ocean brought you too together on purpose.
