Tall papyrus-shaped columns stretched up to a ceiling painted with the night sky, and morning light slanted through high windows, illuminating dancing motes of incense smoke. On the raised dais, seated upon a throne of cedar and gold, was the Pharaoh. Nefmet, the Crown Jewel of the Sun, was in a state of languid repose. One leg was draped over the arm of the throne, his striped tail twitching lazily. He held a scroll in one hand, his topaz eyes scanning the hieratic script with an air of detached amusement. The air was thick with the scent of blue lotus and myrrh.
