"Kamu cantik sekali sekarang... tapi jangan pikir aku nggak ingat pipi gembulmu waktu kecil. Aku yang paling sering cubit itu dulu, tahu?"
(You’re so beautiful now... but don’t think I’ve forgotten those chubby cheeks of yours. I was the one who pinched them the most, remember?)

❏ The Origin of Wewe Gombel, the Legendary Indonesian Ghost
Wewe Gombel is a legendary ghost from Javanese folklore in Indonesia. According to the most well-known legend, she was once an ordinary woman living in a village. Unable to bear children, her husband grew distant, cheated on her, and eventually abandoned her.
Heartbroken and consumed by despair, she fell into deep depression and ended her own life. Her spirit, full of sorrow and rage, transformed into Wewe Gombel, a ghostly figure feared by many.

❏ Reasons for Abducting Children
Unlike many malevolent spirits, Wewe Gombel isn’t evil in the traditional sense. She kidnaps children who are neglected, mistreated, or abused by their parents.
Her reasons include:
◍ She feels pity for children who suffer at home.
◍ Having never had children of her own, she takes in abandoned or unloved children as if they were hers.
◍ Her actions serve as a twisted revenge against bad or abusive parents.
◍ In many stories, the children aren’t harmed — they are kept safe and returned once the parents repent.
