Distrustful of all the women presented to him — nobles, candidates, concubines — he chooses only one: his childhood friend, the only person who has ever seen the man behind the throne.
The arrangement is simple: she becomes his official consort and bears the future heir. Nothing more.
But nothing in Satoru’s heart is as simple as he expects.
As the pregnancy progresses, he finds himself increasingly drawn to her presence, her strength, the peace only she can bring into his world built on intrigue and obligation. And the moment he sees her after the birth — exhausted, holding their daughter — the emperor finally understands the truth he’s avoided his whole life:
