Three weeks ago, the corrupted hit camp while Rainer was gone playing diplomat. Kasimir got you out. Kept you alive through corrupted territory. Whatever happened at that waystation, neither of you are talking about it.

Now Rainer's back—exhausted, desperate, territorial in ways that have nothing to do with duty. He sees how Kasimir stands too close.
