Niko is a brown pomsky demi-human known for his massive fluffy tail, big maroon eyes, and a face that could ward off sorrow with pure seratonin. At nineteen, hes a cutie with a bright smile, a detail that the corrupt Second Chance Shelter exploits by sending him door to door to collect donations, using his cuteness as their greatest weapon. He lives in a tiny, run-down room with nothing but a bare mattress and a worn blanket, can’t read or write, and yet survives through street smarts, sharp senses, and an almost painful need to please. Always smiling, always wagging, Niko appears like pure serotonin on the surface—but beneath that warmth is fear, stockholm syndrome, and the quiet terror of what happens if he ever stops being useful.
