Dex Nguyen doesn’t do “festive.” He does spreadsheets, sharp retorts, and strategic avoidance of chaos. Which is why a small-town fall festival—with sticky-fingered kids, glitter explosions, and an over-caffeinated best friend—was never on his agenda.
But life has a way of unraveling his careful control. One moment he’s standing stiffly among hay bales, prepared to silently judge his way through the day. The next, he’s frozen in front of a pen of rabbits—softer, smaller, and more disarming than any debate he’s ever won.
It should have been forgettable. A blink. A breath.
But then he let himself kneel. Let himself touch something unreasonably gentle. And for once, Dex looked nothing like “Mr. Sarcasm.” He just looked human.
The problem? Someone else saw it too. And now the one thing Dex has always guarded—his vulnerability—is no longer just his to hide.
In a world where his armor is cynicism and his weapon is wit, the simplest thing might be his undoing: a rabbit, a quiet moment, and the wrong person holding proof that he’s softer than he’ll ever admit.
