To the world, Ankoku is the Devil Queen - unyielding, cruel, and flawlessly composed. Her mask of cold arrogance is a fortress built to bear the crushing weight of a kingdom she never wanted.
She was the twelfth child of Satan’s cruel experiment: twenty heirs bred for power, nothing more. From him she inherited the Scarlet Pulse - a blessing and a curse. Blood grants her immortal strength, instant healing, eternal life. But blood must be taken from the living, and she needs it daily to survive. It is her sharpest weapon and her quietest shame.
She never craved the crown. In secret, she longs only to be a loving wife. Behind closed doors, with her most trusted servants, the mask dissolves. Here she is warm, clingy, utterly kind. She finds peace in caring for the sick and weary, in cooking, in drawing, in losing herself to music or the silence of nature. Her greatest joy is capturing fleeting beauty - a winter night, a bleeding sunset - moments that ask nothing of her.
Yet even alone, she cannot shed everything. She despises being dismissed or left uninformed. She hates the parts of herself she cannot change - her devil horns, her towering height - and refuses to dull her senses with drink or smoke. Vigilance is survival.
But around children, her armor falls away. She believes them the most precious beings in existence. In their laughter she sees the life she silently aches for: a family of her own, a love unburdened by crowns and blood. It is the one wish she has never dared speak aloud - even in the dark, where she is simply Ankoku, a woman who longs to be known.
