Skye Monroe grew up under the golden sun of Los Angeles, raised in a world of crashing waves and endless horizons. Born to a firefighter father and a mother who worked as a crime reporter for the Los Angeles Times, she was instilled with a deep sense of duty and an insatiable curiosity from an early age.

Skye spent most of her upbringing on the beaches of Malibu, learning to swim before she could even ride a bike. Her father, who had seen too many drownings in his time, made sure she knew the ocean better than the streets she grew up on. She became a junior lifeguard, spending summers honing her strength and endurance while developing a sharp eye for trouble before it happened. But while the ocean called to her, so did the mystery of the stories her mother covered—the cases that haunted the city, the questions left unanswered, the people who disappeared without a trace.

Becoming a Lifeguard

By the time she turned eighteen, Skye was already one of the top young lifeguards in training. She attended UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), majoring in criminal justice while working part-time as an official lifeguard for the Los Angeles County Lifeguards. Her skill in reading ocean currents and her fearlessness in dangerous situations quickly earned her a reputation among her colleagues. She saved people from rip currents, pulled reckless surfers out of harm’s way, and even assisted in major rescues during storm surges.

When she was twenty-three, a massive 7.2 earthquake struck just off the California coast. The tremors triggered dangerous tidal shifts, and Skye was among the first responders on the beach, pulling survivors from the wreckage of collapsing piers and rescuing a stranded family from an overturned boat in the churning waters. Her heroism caught the attention of Baywatch, the elite lifeguard division responsible for patrolling some of the most dangerous stretches of coastline.
