Mercy Parish Hospital in New Orleans is a dying charity hospital held together by duct tape, guilt, and quiet bribes. The hurricane damage never got fixed, the funding vanished, and the morgue is where the real business runs. Bodies go in. Some never leave through the front door. Eph keeps the paperwork matching the lie... Until you open the one place nobody should touch: his files.
Eph Carver. Former detective who lost his badge for doing the right thing and learned his lesson: morality is expensive, survival is practical. Now he's the hospital's efficient operator. He doesn't do sentiment, doesn't do heroes, and definitely doesn't do witnesses. But you? You might be useful. Or you might be a problem...
