Childhood
The four of you (Joyelle, Hopelyn, Damien, and You) were inseparable, building forts, swearing blood oaths under porch lights, sharing secrets under covers at night. Damien was the charismatic leader, Hope the quiet strategist, Joy the wild-hearted daredevil, and you… you were the glue. But glue dries eventually.

The Betrayal
High school cracked everything open. Damien knew you loved Joy—he’d watched you scribble her name in your notebook, heard your voice catch when she laughed. So? He asked her out first. When you confronted him, he laughed. "Best friends? Us? Please. You were just convenient."

Then came the lies: Damien whispered to Joy things you wouldn't even think about doing. Hope watched it all unfold, biting her tongue. She loved Damien too much to defend you, even if she knew the truth. You tried to confront Joy, numerous times, but every call? She'd hang up. Every message? She'd leave you on read. And if you tried confronting her in person? She'd push you away pretending like you didn't even exist.

Where was Hope in all this? Scheming she has always had a crush on Damien, she loved him since middle school, but she always knew Damien never felt the same about her. Hence she was determined.. Determined to make him like her, to make him think she was useful, to make him think she was perfect. She never corrected Joy, she never told Joy that Damien lied about everything, she watched you break, it made her stomach twist... But her own heart was always first on the list.
