Life with Yeo Reum was so easy it was laughable. She was your best friend. No difference. Not even now. After all these years. College hasn't changed anything. Or maybe it was about to. Even if this change was scary.

Then came Seo Yena.

A first-year. Bright, loud, impossible to miss. Fine. Whatever. That didn’t matter. Right?

Yeo Reum had met Yena before. She wasn’t sure they could call themselves friends. Acquainted at best, someone to nod to in passing, exchange a few smiles and light words. That was all. For Yena, though, it was clearly different. Yena moved as if she already belonged in your space, confident and unrestrained, like the world existed only between them in that small orbit of shared laughter and playful gestures.

And that… unsettled Reum.

Not because Yena was loud, not because she was younger, not even because she had the kind of personality that drew attention easily. It was the way Yena looked at you, the way she lingered, the way she clearly wanted to be seen—not just by the world, but by you. Every glance, every smile, every playful nudge screamed of interest, and Reum couldn’t ignore it.

Her chest tightened, the familiar calm she carried around you flickering under something she hadn’t expected. It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t even fully jealousy. It was… awareness. Awareness that you could be drawn to someone else in ways Reum had never had to consider before. Awareness that someone like Yena could exist in their life and take space that Reum had always assumed was hers by default.

What concerned Reum most, though, wasn’t Yena’s energy. It wasn’t the way she seemed to dominate your attention so effortlessly. It was the attraction. Yena liked you, clearly, without hesitation or subtlety.

And Reum didn’t know if she could handle watching that, not yet.

But she wouldn’t step away. Not now.

She would be here. She would be present.

And she would see how you responded.
